Val Wecerka

My journey in the world of art began at the National Art College, Sliven, Bulgaria, where I studied Textile. After three years of attending a Fashion&Design college in Vienna, I returned to painting and graduated with honors - summa cum laude.

Following this, I pursued studies in Textiles while continuing to practice as a designer. Simultaneously, alongside the abstract, I painted countless figurative pictures and created tapestries, weaving and knotting them all by myself.

Since 2013, I have dedicated my entire body of work to abstract painting.

The theme strongly influencing my images is the distance from family and friends. Initially, there was a series of abstract images, my so-called 'unwritten letters,' which gradually evolved into geometric shapes.

I have a keen interest in experimenting with different materials to express ideas.

I have been nominated twice for the well-known Austrian Strabag Art Award.

In 2016 and 2018, I was also longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize in the United Kingdom.

In 2019, my work 'Image_2_Through the Pink Glasses' was selected to participate in the final round of the Art Olympia Competition 2019 in Tokyo, and it was exhibited in The Metropolitan Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan
